Go beyond functionality to add true value for employees

Jon is in this article by Sage People on eleven HR tech trends to watch in 2020.

The right HR technology doesn’t just automate tasks for employees – it enables them to contribute fully, and leverage their potential as unique individuals, explains Jon Ingham, author of ‘The Social Organization’.

“Approaches need to move towards liberating and empowering people,” he explains. “HR tech needs to support this change”.

Jon adds that something else the sector can expect to see over the next year is a shift towards managing teams, groups, and networks – rather than just individuals: “HR systems, therefore, need to focus much more on the value of a group, enabling us to measure and reward the performance of teams, not just individuals”.

A new year and a new decade so, yes, it's prediction time again!

You will hopefully already know that Jon believes strategic HR is all about focusing on people, not ever tighter alignment with the business (eg this blogpost).

Jon’s recent HRZone article explains why this focus on people is essential (and that therefore, if we don't do it, someone else will!).

Jon's 'Different Slant' article suggests modern HR organisation designs will increasingly involve a mix of traditional functions, horizontal (process, project, product, agile) teams, communities and networks, as well as melds of these.

Jon has outlined these models in a bit more depth in Linkedin, and you may like to check out those posts there as well:

My Different Slant article on people-centric organisation design in HR Magazine is now online.

The article suggests modern organisation design will increasingly involve a mix of traditional functions, horizontal (process, project, product, agile) teams, communities and networks, as well as melds of these.

I've outlined these models in a bit more depth in Linkedin. You may like to check out those posts there as well:

Jon is frequently listed as a key influencer in HR and is recognised as a 'Top HR Tech Influencer' for 2019 by Human Resource Executive.
This recognition reflects the positive influence Jon has within the broader HR community particularly with regard to
the strategic decisions HR leaders make around the use and deployment of best fit HR technology.
In an HR Tech interview Jon says, "I’d encourage organisations to focus on making a strategic case rather than trying to estimate a potential ROI. Technology is becoming so important that it is often about what the business needs to do strategically, not just about financial results. Also ROI tends to miss the most important aspects of both technology and people management. And thirdly, technology often has the greatest benefit from its integration into business and people management strategy, not just through its independent impact. The strategic case is about linking technology investments to HR activities, the people outcomes of these, and then to planned business results."

Jon Ingham receives industry recognition in the HR Most Influential List 2019 as a Mover and Shaker within the HR profession.

“This year we’ve launched a new Movers and Shakers list, designed to reflect that the way senior HR practitioners exert influence, particularly later in their careers, is changing. It reflects the increasing number progressing to portfolio careers. This might include a succession of high-level interim assignments, a portfolio of board and committee appointments and/or consultancy work - HR Magazine”

The ‘Movers and Shakers 2019’ commends those strongly impacting the wider profession, and the organizations they work with.
